Robust FE-based Solver for Durability and Damage Tolerance
Premature fatigue fractures in structural components are a major concern for manufacturers across the globe. However, to avoid this challenge, opting for testing against repetitive loading cycles becomes a time-consuming and cost-intensive activity. While Finite Element Analysis programs help manufacturers identify stress “hot spots”, the hotspots might not be the critical areas for fatigue failure or prediction of when fatigue might become a problem. This often leads to longer prototype-development cycles, overweight components, unpredictable warranty claims and dissatisfied customers.
MSC Fatigue enables engineers with an FE-based durability and damage tolerance solver which can cater to the full range of fracture and fatigue life calculations, in both the time and frequency domain. Manufacturers and engineers can accurately and quickly predict the product durability under any predefined combination of time or frequency-dependent loading conditions. This reduces the number of iterations in prototype testing, brings down the warranty costs significantly and also increases the probability of product design success.
MSC Fatigue comes with the advanced life estimation capabilities that can be leveraged by manufacturers and durability engineers in comprehensive fatigue analysis using the same results as obtained from stress analysis. It offers a unified environment for the holistic management of CAE, dynamic analysis, and durability analysis. It consists of advanced capabilities developed by MSC Software over the last two decades as well as more recent modules developed as part of the nCode DesignLife suite of programs.
Key Features
MSC Fatigue is an industry-recognized cutting-edge solution to interactively optimize the fatigue life of product-designs. This can be leveraged by engineers and manufacturers across the globe to work effectively with closely connected fatigue calculations for dynamic systems within CAE environments. The fatigue behaviors that can be simulated include those arising from thermal, static, or dynamic events. One of the newly implemented methods – the “stress gradient method” helps further in engine fatigue analysis.
The comprehensive weld capabilities offered assists engineers in predicting the longevity of welds. One of the key strengths of this FE-based durability and tolerance solver is that engineers have the flexibility to initiate, pause, and monitor the fatigue audit at various stages. This is a software of choice for engineers for fatigue calculations for dynamic systems within CAE environments. With the derived insights from fatigue analysis, engineers and product manufacturers can seamlessly and interactively optimize their product designs. The numerous features are continuously enhanced with every release of MSC Fatigue and nCode.
Nastran Embedded Fatigue
Fatigue analysis can be cumbersome and time-intensive. With Nastran Embedded Fatigue (NEF), for the first time, fatigue analysis is being done as a part of the solving process rather than being a post processing task. This greatly optimizes the fatigue calculation processes as there is a significant reduction in the number of miscellaneous files that have to be managed. This considerably reduces the total time required for the overall process. With NEF, there is no need for large stress files to be transferred and consequently, there is a reduction in the CPU (memory) requirements & the associated ability to process fatigue calculation in memory. All these enhanced features make full body fatigue calculations easier and faster, especially for large models.
