World-leading Powerful Acoustics Simulation Tool
Optimizing the acoustic performance of designs is now easier with Actran, a unique and reliable acoustic simulation software from MSC. Backed by finite or infinite element methods (FE/IFE) and the Discontinuous Galerkin Method (DGM), Actran helps solve acoustic, vibro-acoustic, and aero-acoustic challenges.
The availability of a rich library of materials, elements, boundary conditions, solution schemes, and solvers sets Actran apart from other acoustic simulation solutions. It comes with an intuitive and user-friendly GUI that can be tweaked based on user preferences. Actran’s modular structure allows for easy deployment.
Actran is extensively used in the design of audio devices such as musical instruments, telephones, and other medical instruments like hearing aids given the ability to help understand sound propagation in complex media. It also finds its applications in the design of complex mufflers and silencers, and to understand sound absorption inside the passenger compartment of cars, trains and aircrafts.
Actran Solutions
Actran VibroAcoustics
Actran VibroAcoustics helps users to study the behaviour of structural vibration associated with an acoustic model. It has an extensive in-built library that comprises of visco-elastic media, porous or incompressible media, composite materials, or active components such as piezo-electric ceramics. Additionally, one can build a complex model by merging AeroAcoustics that will solve aero-vibro-acoustic problems.
VibroAcoustics is widely used in various industries such as Consumer Devices, FMCG, and Defense to name a few. It helps in solving noise-related problems for powertrains, intakes, exhausts, passenger compartment, audio, and HVAC in the automotive space, sound transmission through the cockpit, noise propagation in air distribution systems.
Actran AeroAcoustics
Actran AeroAcoustics helps in solving problems pertaining to sound generation and propagation mechanisms. It aids skilled engineers and designers across the world to simulate acoustic noise level of car interior, aircraft interiors, electronic devices, among others.
This simulation tool possesses the ability to predict the noise generation of turbulent flows and analyze the structure of a vibrating object, absorbent materials or resonators. Its high performing solvers and parallel processing features allows users to integrate Actran pre- and post-processing environments.
SNGR
Actran SNGR can accurately analyze and predict the noise induced by turbulent flows with the help of CFD solutions such as StarCCM+™, Powerflow™, SC/Tetra™, Fluent™, Star-CD™, or OpenFOAM™. The noise sources are synthesized using CFD analysis and then run as an acoustic computation.
Actran SNGR is relatively faster and more efficient than its counterpart aero-acoustic in terms of noise generation-related challenges. Equipped with high-performance solvers, Actran SNGR offers easy integration with Actran VI, and Actran VibroAcoustics.
Some of the many applications of Actran SNGR module are air conditioning modules, side mirror, and airframe noise as well as air distribution systems.
Trimmed Body
Actran for Trimmed Body is utilized by most engineering designers across the globe to simulate and analyze complex vibro-acoustic systems such as trim components. It allows CAE professionals the liberty to combine the Actran physical model and Nastran modal model to create a fully trimmed body vibro-acoustic model.
This simulation tool finds applications in acoustics transmission through components in real-world mounting scenarios.
Actran SEA
SEA, short for Statistical Energy Analysis, is used to study noise and vibration propagation at mid and high frequencies. Creating a SEA model the classic way is possible only using experimental data or analytical results of geometrical objects.
Actran SEA enables CAE engineers to build SEA model by reusing finite elements vibro-acoustic models. This simulation tool comes with an unusual frequency extrapolation method, which makes it possible to extend the frequency range validity of existing vibro-acoustic finite elements models.
Industry niches such as Automotive, Aerospace, Shipbuilding, railway, and off-road vehicles lend themselves well to Actran SEA modules, for various functions such as vibration response, transfer path analysis, onboard noise prediction, acoustic comfort prediction as well as cabin noise comfort prediction, etc.
Actran TM
Large Models that cater to higher frequencies and large geometrical sizes built with acoustic CAE methods can be highly complex. Actran TM addresses this challenge. With solver technologies and advanced parallel processing, Actran TM helps analyze the sound generated by turbomachinery.
Actran TM is generally used to analyze and predict aircraft engine and turbine noise, ducted cooling systems for electronic devices, blower systems for air conditioning modules, among others.
Actran DGM
Predicting noise generation in a complex physical environment is easier with Actran DGM. The tool offers easy solutions to aero-acoustic problems that occur in the exhaust of a double flux aero-engine. It helps study the effect of factors such as shear layers, high temperature gradients, and non-homentropic mean flows.
Actran DGM avoids the standard limitations associated with the Finite Difference Method by using an unstructured mesh method without affecting the overall performance. This simulation tool is ideal for most acoustic propagation problems, especially with non-homogenous mean flow conditions.
Actran VI
Actran VI is a one-of-a-kind graphical user interface that is designed for pre- and post-processing of the entire Actran CAE software suite. The Actran input file reader supports an array of mesh formats such as Nastran BDF, ANSYS RST and CDB, Actran DAT and NFF, I-DEAS UNV, and Patran Neutral to create suitable input files for Actran.
Actran VI simplifies the creation and modification of Actran models and visualization of specific Actran model features and its boundary conditions. Specification of projection parameters is easy and efficient.
Actran VI consists of a post-processing tool that supports various result formats and a host of visualization modules. It’s synchronized viewport helps engineering professionals to analyze and predict results at varied frequencies, times, phases, etc. This simulation tool finds applications in validation, visualization, creation/modification of Actran modules in a dynamic approach.
